Wow. After this past week of Thanksgiving and celebrations, I don't really know where to start! My mother's birthday party was so much fun and Thanksgiving at Refuge was great (LOVED squeezing on my cousin's baby!) but there are no pictures of all that. Just too busy socializing to have a camera! But so many other things are making me smile these days, and here are my top 5.
Being able to throw a party for a great friend who is expecting her first baby girl. I would post a picture of her "belly bumping" her also- pregnant friend, but child services might call. The party was so much fun.. I feel like I did nothing but show up to a beautifully decorated home with amazing food and super fun people. You need to check out that arrangement in the antique baby carriage.
I made my first Pear Pie. I think Nick jokingly asked his sister years ago to make one for him. She, unsurprisingly, found a crazy good recipe and rocked it out. She brought it back this year over Thanksgiving and I got to help with the pie crust. I didn't get a picture of it baked, but that weaving isn't too bad!
My other sister in law shared this website with me. Of course, I helped her pick out a great pair, but I might have also spent a couple of hours tonight making my wishlist. Do I think they are real? Yes. If not, don't tell me. They are beautiful. I MUST HAVE THAT RED SOLE!!! And being the good Memphis expat that I am , I am thinking blue suede? Plus, they would be good Ole Miss shoes..
Speaking of wish lists and sisters in law, I wish I could get both of mine these plates. They make me so happy.. and I think they would both dig them too. But, alas, I am unemployed. Unless you girls just want one apiece, you will not be getting them. Would you go with the assortment of colors or just stick with one? Hmmmm. I think I would pick just one color. But I can't right now.
And now being serious. What is really making me grin like a crazy person??? PARADE WEEK, people!!! I love the parade. Love. If you need me Friday, I will be freezing my little (I wish) butt off sitting in front of Giardinas with a fun group of girls watching the 75th Roy Martin Delta Band Parade.
It is Christmas, my dears. And what says that more than booty- dancing???
We have a wild holiday, especially with Nick's work schedule. We do our best to scoot all over the state, eating and kissing babies like good politicians. Sometimes we miss out on the traditions we have with our families so we try and make our own. One of my favorite things that the two of us take the time for each year is to celebrate our "engagement anniversary". We mark this day by getting each other ornaments for our tree. They don't have to be serious or even "go" with the tree. Just a little something we think the other will like. December 4th is coming up this weekend.. so a little flashback of some of the ornaments of the past years.
Do you have little traditions like this? It always makes me laugh when Nick reminds me that our date is coming up.
It's a Happy Birthday to my mother.. The woman to taught me everything. Her style and grace are effortless and amazing. She is a beautiful mother, daughter, wife and grandmother.
She made me the woman I am today. I am extremely proud every day that I am her daughter.
Happy Birthday, Mom! Hurry and get to Greenwood so we can play!
Sorry! I missed the actual Top 5 Tuesday.. it was such a busy day. There are several things making me smile this week.. and thankful. What a good time to recognize those things! I am thankful and happy to have a husband that will come home at almost midnight and participate in a little Christmas decorating:
I am thankful and happy that fall is not yet over at my house. I am LOVING outside right now. Can you believe the color of those crepe myrtles:
I am thankful and happy that I live in such a great little town. Even on a Tuesday night, I can go to a great yoga/ pilates class and hang out in this courtyard with fun friends!
I am thankful and happy that my sister- in- law sends me pictures of these cool kids since I won't see them for a few weeks:
I am thankful and happy to have found this artist. Fingerprints! How cool is that? Girl.. I like the way you think and I love an exacto blade..
This is going to be a big Christmas in the Seabergh House. Yes, I am aware it is not Thanksgiving yet. I LOVE Thanksgiving.. it is probably my favorite holiday. But I get so excited about decorating for Christmas I. cannot. stand. it.
And this year is going to be our best yet. There may or may not be a disco ball involved. So here I am... listening to Robert Earl Keen's "Merry Christmas from the Family" (counting the days til my brother gets to town) and starting a few little touches, like this wreath in the kitchen..
That's how we roll. Christmas Colors? We make them up around here.
Now, I promise I will enjoy Thanksgiving.. fried deer meat and sweet potato casserole are on the menu for us at Refuge.
But the tree is going up Thursday Night and it is ON.
To celebrate the one week before Thanksgiving, we had "MaryNeff and Nicks Ultimate Extravaganza" yesterday. Which basically just consists of Nick taking a day off work and hanging out with me. We started with pancakes and coffee in bed, followed by a nap, then lunch at Whats Cooking. Nick then had a date with my mom to get haircuts while I drank even more coffee with my dad at Turnrow. (My parents coming to town had nothing to do with MNANUE but was a little perk). Then the most amazing husband in the world gave me the most amazing present.
He fixed my bench.. excuse me... OUR bench.
While it might not look like anything special to you, we acquired this bench 8 years ago from Earnestine and Hazel's in Memphis. Nick was kind of devastated, because it smelled strongly of Soul Burgers, but I saw something special in this little bench. So we hauled it up 3 flights of stairs into my loft, then 6 months later hauled it 3 flights down and across town into my little Midtown apartment. There it sat on my screened porch. It saw some great parties and good quality time with Frida and (cat-child) Cecilia. And on December 4, 2004, Nick proposed to me while I sat on our bench.
The bench didn't make it to Columbus but was one of the first things we moved to Greenwood when we bought our house. Some of the coolest people I know have sat on our bench for fire pit parties, champagne afternoons, coffee mornings... until one of them broke it. So, it has sat in our back yard since May, 3 legged and sad. Until yesterday. My husband fixed my bench. I am so very happy.
Happy birthday to my girl, my long time partner in crime, Anna P. I met her in the Wendy's in Jackson in 1996 and haven't been the same since. She makes me look good, still introduces me to good music and makes me laugh hysterically for hours on end. Can't wait to see you tonight!
You might, at this point, know how much I love and am saving my pennies for an Amanda Stone Talley painting. This weekend, she and Hayley Gaberlavage are having a 30% off sale (here) of their beautiful paintings. I have only recently heard of Gaberlaveage and am loving her work too! Enjoy browsing.. and if you buy, think of me. Kindly. As in.. buy me one too! (This one, please)
I feel so productive! I bought my first gift for Christmas last night.. It might be the perfect thing for my favorite first born nephew... He who loves puzzles and even at his age, appreciates a good Doe's Steak.
Also picked these for a happy for my mom, who LOVES cocktail napkins like I do and uses the term "Delta Casual.. even when talking about Thanksgiving dinner....
A friend of mine in Atlanta just had a personal shopper come to her home and help her purge her closets. She said it was quite painful getting rid of items she thought she needed, but she said that now it's great. She knows what she has and wears what looks good on her.
I am purging my clothes today. I started by saying, "I am just going to get rid of 5 tops".. that turned into lots more tops.. pants.. sweaters.. bags... shoes. Things I hadn't worn in years. Some that I have moved from place to place thinking I would wear them again. 3 bags later and heading to Goodwill!
