Side by Side

So I have been working on this little project for a few weeks now. It entailed lots of steps..
Priming, sanding, painting, sanding, painting, gold leafing, sealing, glazing.
I know, I know. Wow. But the before and after pictures are pretty awesome, if I do say so myself!

Yes. Gross. You are looking at a stack of
two dirty old side tables
scored off the side of the road..
and one is covered with very attractive contact paper..
that took forever to scrape off. Forever.
The thought of chunking them into the dumpster crossed my mind several times.

I rolled the sides and the tops,
but found that spray primer and paint worked so much better for the edging and the medallions.
I also went with a Satin Black to draw more attention to the gold leafing.

As I showed yesterday, I had a bit of inspiration. I thought of going all- white, like my credenza, but I loved the idea of black with super glamorous gold leafed medallions.
After I sealed the leaf, I added a bronze glaze to calm them down a bit.
So, Now.. the After Shot:

They would be great as side tables flanking a sofa..
and they offer tons of storage.

A special thank you to my friend, Kristen, who patiently watched me gold leaf in the carport every time she came over for wine!

Ahhh, Summer Vacation

Hear that sigh of relief? That's me. On summer vacation. Since I missed mine earlier this year, I am making up for it now. Summer in October ROCKS.
I asked Nick if I could just be a housewife yesterday. That was answered with a very loud "NO". But still, I am trying to prove myself worthwhile by getting an insane amount of work done at our house. He just smirks. He knows this is just a win/ win situation for him.
My list today includes Buying hangers and a headlight. Nick has no hangers. I don't know what he does with them! So organizing his closet this morning was somewhat difficult.
I have also been working on some projects this week, like the stool I posted yesterday, and I have another to show either today or tomorrow.
This is a little tease of my inspiration:

I'm off to run errands. Have a great day!

The Best Seat in the House

One of my favorite scores from The Help set.. my great little stool. Rusty and ragged, but great lines!
The best part.. This entire project was free.
Before Shot:

Gold trumps Silver in my world. Plus, I already had the paint! Nick said I can't buy anymore spray paint until I use what I have. Boo.

Popping off the upholstery tacks wasn't the hard part.. Nailing them back in (after a shot of Gold spray paint)was!

I was going with stripes, but Laura Merrill had this great graphic dot in her fabulous pile of scraps.
The After Shot:

Kinda makes me want to teach again so I can glam up my classroom! Any teachers out there looking to spice it up a bit?

Ellens Nursery

I am working on my sweet friend, Ellen's, nursery for her baby girl. Working with Ellen has been hilarious since she is completely indecisive but will go buy something major on a whim! I think this is going to be a great space.. the perfect place for Ellen and Lawson to relax and chill with Baby Girl G. I love that she likes soft colors and flowy fabrics. It is going to be feminine but not too baby. A shopping trip and dash to New Orleans are up on my To- Do list very soon. I can't wait to show off the final product!

Ps.. First mood board on the blog and first one done digitally! Thoughts?

Thursday Morning Public Service Announcement

It sometimes takes my 31 year old self a little while to figure out texting slang. I like hearing myself talk, so I do not shorten my words into acronyms. I ran across one though that I couldn't crack, so I Googled it. GMH.
I found this.... GivesMeHope.
Super cool little stories about people who have made really great differences in lives. Some are definitely tween/ teen- ish but during this time of acknowledging bullying and other tortures, it is really good to read how people still take the time to just be nice
Stepping off soap  Thanks.

Ah, Monday

Welcome! I would love to show you photos of beautiful projects I completed over the weekend...
but alas, I cannot do that.
I worked a lot. On a bunch of different things. I was truely quite productive!
I blame the uncompletedness on these tempting guys from Saturday night:

Obviously, not the Jello shots I partook in, but these were really pretty.
Jello Shots are not a good idea,
but they are fun.
Sorry Mom.

So, my Sunday started off kind of late.
I believe I really needed sleep.
But by noon, I was up to my elbows in paint and Brasso
And Pasta Gravy.

10 Gallons, to be exact. Made by myself...
for our church's Halloween Carnival.
That's a lot of pasta gravy.
My house smelled A-MAZ-ING.
They should make candles out of that.

Painting and cleaning more this evening.
Completed photos soon!

Yay Weekend!

Off the Wall

I love Wallpaper... I haven't put any up in my own house, but I really do love the look. I loved this room in this month's Lonny Magazine... Not so much the patterns and colored mats, but Layering a gallery wall on top of wallpaper= Great idea for my hallway.
This is an incredible idea for wallpaper that HP is doing.. Design your own. You send your own art and the dimensions of the room.. and they send you the wallpaper.

Notes from Work.

This morning I got to drink coffee in my own kitchen with my 2 favorite guys.. Not too much that could top it. Except if I had gotten to stay at home. I wish Drew and Nick could hang out all the time. They would build trash can fires and drink bourban all day long.
They also helped get my new tables out of my truck with very little complaining. Alas, I sadly left them at home and went to work where I have this bad boy to warm my tootsies

While snackin on these... Hello Cheeky Lemon. Organic means good for you right? No calories?? I can eat the whole bag?

I am also Facebook stalking...
I liked this a lot.

Of course you should only cook tacos, JC. I would come over every day.
A good morning, so far!
Happy Thursday, Yall.
There might be a trash can fire at my house tonight.
Just sayin.

Helping Out

Since June, I have been working for the art department for the movie, The Help, filming here in Greenwood. My job consists of everything from researching 1960's interiors and exteriors, shopping for set items, ordering fabrics, and running around the state and town like a pack of wild dogs are chasing me.
Get out of my way... I am always in a hurry.
The people I work for design and decorate the set... the beautiful and sometimes not so beautiful (depending on the scene) backgrounds that make the film seem realistic.
The movie is wrapping up next week, and while I am excited to move on to new things, I have learned that I now look at movies and TV shows in a whole new way.  I am amazed at the amount of detail that can go into a single tiny set for just a minute on film. I have literally in the past few months spent hours on tasks like finding, printing and covering books for a bookstore and labeling period friendly liquor bottles for a background of a bar.

And they looked pretty fabulous if I say so myself.
So, now I find myself zoning out into sets. This week alone, I have picked out the coolest lucite barstools from a set in The Golden Girls, stared at a tufted headboard from Mad Men instead of listening to Don Draper, and wondered who is in any picture frame I see in any show. Because you can be pretty sure, it will be the family member of some poor girl in the Art department.

(Including Mine!)
Moving on. It has been wild, fun and stressful. All rolled up into 12 hour days. This is not the life I choose, but I have a whole new respect for these people! I will, though,  score some great loot from the set..

I am now ready for my "summer vacation" that will consist of 2 (tops) days of cleaning my house, visiting and relaxing then heading in full force with my next plan!
Get Ready!

Big Saturday Plans

I love a list (Hi,Jeane!)
I also love having nothing to do on a Saturday..

PS.. I accidentally wrote "Talk Nick into cutting class". That made me smile.
Happy Saturday, Yall!
