Happy Birthday Mia!
I think you are amazing-
I wish I could squeeze on you
and feed you cupcakes all day.
I love you!

Color Theory Thursday

School's Out for Summer!
This day calls for YELLOW!
Yellow screams for attention. Obviously yellow is energizing and happy, but did you know that too much of it as a dominate color can make you irritable?
And it is not actually a good kitchen color because it can make couples fight?
And painting a child's room yellow can make them crazy?
Oooooo.
My room was yellow when I was a child. That explains so much.
Regardless, I am a fan. You can't help but smile.
But either use just some "pops" or use a lighter yellow, please! These beautiful spaces show really wonderful balance.
A little goes a long way.

Girl Crush

Can we discuss how much I love this room?
I can't find a single thing I don't like.

Look people! Someone's not afraid of color!
Or pattern!
Or mixing things up!

I love those chairs the most.
And the pops of turquoise that look
like they might not make sense but do.
Because we all know-
Turquoise is a neutral.

This girl is my new best friend.
She doesn't know it yet.

A Case of the Wants.

It looks like I am really going to
NEED these this week.
Aren't they cute?!?

Top 5 Tuesday

It has been a wild and crazy rollercoaster the past few weeks. School is over for the students, and I am packing up my classroom.
Yep. It's kind of bittersweet, with the possibility of not coming back, but I am uber- pumped about what my life has in store for me!
Without my computer (Uggg!!), it has been hard to become inspired to post lately.
I think there is just so much I can show what I am liking from the internet or from pictures on my computer at work!

But.. there are a few things making me happy this week. (Other than my upcoming summer!)

This book is better than Xanax.
It is Design Crack
and Hilariously Smart.
Adler's crazy style can always
pull me out of a funk.

Sigh.
Don't you love it?!?!?
I would put this in my dressing room.
Or bathroom.
Or hallway.
Or back entryway.
I think it is perfect.

Dutch Tulip Fields.
Wow.
Aren't they amazing?
You just can't help but smile.

Que on the Yazoo was this past Saturday.
I got great pictures, but you know the story....
I took this one on my Blackberry- Sorry.
But, It was YUMMY.
And can you beat the name of the team???
Magnum P.I.G.
They took care of me all weekend!

One of my favorite students gave me this.
See those little lines??
jamesbrownjamesbrownjamesbrown.
Awesome.
He never put a pencil to his paper...
Drew the whole thing in pen.
I am so proud!

Have a wonderful day!

Cultured Friday: Lamar Sorrento

Warning: This guy's art is not for everybody.

I understand that. It is by no means "pretty".
It is wild. It is colorful.
You can hear music resounding from the paint.
I love it.

Nick and I bought our first painting together early in our first year of dating. (Yeah, We knew.)
We bought a Lamar Sorrento of Son House at the Double Decker Festival in 2001.
This guy is nuts. Ole Miss and Memphis friends, surely you know who I am talking about. .. His stuff is all over City Grocery, Ajax, Otherland's and Huey's.
And of course, it's covering the walls and elevators at
"Fun To Park" parking garage in downtown Memphis!
He is a wild haired, self taught painter and a really loud guitar player from Memphis. He does incredible portraits of musicians he loves/ is obsessed with.
He also does commissions. I hear some cool Greenwood kids are having one done of their dad's old band, The Gants.
That's cool.
I really need him to do one of my little fam (hint hint, Nick!).

Rock on.

Color Theory Thursday

As an Art teacher, my favorite topic to teach is Color Theory. I truly believe that color can affect your mood, and your favorite colors can really say something about your personality.
I love the way colors make you feel in a room. Sometimes I think choosing a specific color for a room can be cliche' (red dining rooms?), but the thought process behind it makes sense!
Today I am in a Blue mood.. Not sad! Just digging the color. Relaxing. We choose blues for both our bedroom and our kitchen.

Bedroom: Mill Springs Blue       Kitchen: Santa Monica Blue
Both Benjamin Moore. Of Course.

Some of my favorite inspiring blues..

Chilled out.

Holla

This is my big brother.
He is kinda a badass.
I like him a lot.
He just had a birthday...
Doesn't look 36, does he?!?

Oh Martha..

All of this clever organization makes me all giddy..

Because even storage
can be color co-ordinated, right?

A girl can dream....

(I know my mother is rolling her eyes right now,
and asking where I came from.)

TGI Tuesday

Sad Week: Our pretty red computer is sick and is (hopefully!) going to the doctor today. It seems to be working, but we see nothing on the screen!
So, no personal pictures for me. I would love to show off my ginormous hydrangea. And my new curtains in the dining room.
Sorry.

Moving on.
I will, though, show these great pillows I found on Ebay! I love an Ikat, even though it is done to death. I am trying to decide if a set should replace my hibiscus pillows on my living room sofa.

Plus:
A To-Do list for my dining room.
*Lower my chandelier (or get a new one!)
*Find a new base for my silver chest
*Decide on hanging plates or brackets on either side of the window
*Find a large floor vase (does that make sense?)
*Frame new artwork to flank the mirror

If I type it, I have to do it.. right?!

I hope everyone has a fabulous day!
Nick has today off, so I am already thinking about what he will cook for dinner. Yum.

Literary Wish List

I have been craving a new design book.
There are just so many times a girl can re-read her Domino magazines for inspiration!
Now.. how do I decide?
Votes? Opinions?
Help!
I am bound and determined to get one this week.
