Dia de los Muertos

While the name might sound rather morbid to some, Day of the Dead, or Dia de los Muertos, is a Latin American holiday that has actually nothing to do with Halloween. It is a time that coincides with the Catholic holidays of All Saints Day (Nov 1) and All Souls Day (Nov 2)- a time of celebration and of remembering those close to you whom you have lost.

Some families build alters with candles, photos and trinkets of their loved ones and marigolds are the flower of choice. Some just reminisce and share favorite foods or drinks.
Catholic or not, these two days are a really good time to be thankful and to  think about how lucky we are to have had those special people in our lives.
