Beautifully Contained

I found these old pictures today that
I had saved from Apartment Therapy.

Shipping Containers are pretty amazing..
Nick and I store the other half of our lives in one in Greenville (Thanks, Dad!), books, Christmas decorations, plus boxes and boxes of "stuff" that we don't use but just can't part with.
We go visit with it a few times a year
so it will still feel loved.

But what if we had this in our back yard?

(photo here)

Think of our options!
An art studio? A lounge area? A guest house?

Check out this "Container City"
just a couple of hours from Mexico City.

(photo here)

How much fun!
All of our family and friends... just a container away!
I kinda feel like I need those chairs.

Plus, other "beautifully contained" spaces...

Restaurant Review

Nick and I took a "working" trip to Memphis last Thursday and experienced an AMAZING meal at Restaurant Iris.
Below is just a "taste" of the dishes we tried.
If you are ever in the area, RUN to this place!
(Trust me, you will need the exercise to fit all of this in!)
My favorites?
The Lobster "Knuckle Sandwich", the Lamb,
the Scallops.... I really can't pick!

Do NOT miss dessert.
It is a rare occurance when the dessert lives up to the meal.
At Iris, it does.

Fabulous Find

Well, the search is over.
I found the bedside table.
I love it.
Love it.
Everything except for the pulls.
Too Traditional.

What Wonderful Storage!
Wooo Whoo.. Nothing on the floor!

So.. These are the pulls I am looking at now.
Both from

I am feeling the urge to purchase.
Come on, paycheck!

Saturday Night Live

I was a lucky girl Saturday night and got to attend an amazing Delta party honoring one of my favorite friends and her new husband!
The party was at my parents' house and was also hosted by a group of very creative couples.
It was so good to see my Greenville crew.. There was a huge crowd!
The food was DELICIOUS!

First: Rare beef tenderloin on crustini with aoili
and Herbed Goat cheese with Olive tapenade.
(I lurked around that one!)

My favorite: Doe's shrimp marinated in their salad dressing with artichokes, mushrooms, onions and banana peppers... All served in mini martini glasses!

The gorgeous flowers on the dining table:

The party also featured a dinner of lasagna, bread and salad..
That food was gone so quickly, I didn't have time to take pictures!
Yum. Yum. Yum.

Growing up in the Delta, we are very lucky to have been raised by such women who are talented, organized, and very hospitable!
Hopefully, some of those qualities were passed on to us!
This party was definately a HIT.

Congrats to the new couple! We love you!

Barstool Obsession

From Julianne Moore's Kitchen
Aren't these barstools AMAZING??
Love a little turquoise charm anywhere.
The woven backs are beautiful.

Who wouldn't love that fireplace in their kitchen?
Lots of greys and steel, yet it still seems warm and homey.

Also, I have to give a shout out for that
Viking Range!

Ruffling my Feathers

I am still a big fan of peacock feathers.
I know they have been done over and over,
but the colors and the girliness of them
still make me smile.
So imagine my happiness when
I found this Dwell duvet cover
with the fabulous birds strutting all over!
The colors are perfect for our guestroom
Perfect to match the pillows in the post below,
but I will for sure have to move
the peacock feather painting to another room!
And the best news...
it will be at Target in April.

Vintage Inspired

I was doing a little on-line shopping
during our "Mississippi Blizzard" this afternoon,
and made my way to the "Home"
(I hate that it is called "Apartment")
section of Urban Outfitters.
I am in no need for pillows night now,
but I had to laugh when I saw these.
I have these exact pillows on my guest bed.

My mom made them in her high school home ec class!
Aren't they awesome??
She is a little devastated that I love them so much,
but they are obviously in style now!

I guess we are both ahead of our time!

Judging Books by their Covers

Yet another productive Saturday!
This blog has definately been giving me a push
to do some re-arranging
and cleaning around the house.
So after lunch and errands, Nick went to the restaurant
and I went to work around here.
The den got a little update, I added some art to the hallway, I cleaned the fans (Gross!),
then while taking a rest in the living room,
the bookshelves caught my eye.

Nick and I both love our books.
It was so fun to join our varied collections when we got married. Between an Art/ English major and a History/Culiary Arts major.. We've got quite an interesting library going!
The problem today was that all of the decorated book spines were looking too "busy". They were taking away from the other objects in the shelves.
Now, I have tried arranging the books by color,
but to me that seems too "decorated".
Then I remembered a tip I had writted in a journal once about removing dust jackets to reveal their cloth covers to brighten your space. All the great color is there, but the graphics are toned down.

It took a while but was so worth it!
It is like having all new books.
And those covers will make great framed art.
New colors, New fonts. Simple, but beautiful.
The mostly solid colors now look more "put together"
and also make the objects around them really Pop!

Happy Day!

This project also reminded me why I would never have a Kindle. It was a little trip down Memory Lane.
I love the feel and smell of books.
Nick and I tuck things in books, and obviously have for years.
I found 2 copies of Nick's birth certificate, some hilarious  photographs from college, receipts, bills, loving inscriptions from my mother saying things like "Happy 27 days before your birthday", and my favorite, a letter from my dad that I found in a Welty novel, telling me to

"Study, Cooperate, and Graduate. Love Sam".

I'm sure I deserved that.
Love you too.

Happy House Plant

Wouldn't you want this large creature living in your house?
What a beautiful plant!
New on the Seabergh Wish List:

Our neighbors,
who we do love,
cut down the most beautiful
30 year old fig tree
on April 22nd (Earth Day, BTW)
that separated our yards.
We are still missing it.

Dear Tree,
Though you don't probably produce fruit,
I feel we need you to take your lost brother's place.
You are a  gorgeous plant grows that to be 10 feet tall.
I want you NOW.
Come on over.
I've got the perfect spot for you.

You Light Up My Life

This amazing fixture clips to the base of a bulb.
You can combine fixtures to create a bigger design.
I have had this picture in my "House Inspiration Book" for two years.
I think my hallway is calling out to it!

All Bowled Over.

Anyone who knows the Seaberghs
knows we love everything New Orleans.

So hosting yesterday's Super Bowl
party was a no- brainer!

Having just gotten back from NOLA
a few weeks ago,
Nick was pretty inspired.

Cochon de lait, S'il vous plaƮt?
Loved using my McCarty
Black Eyed Pea bowl.
Good Luck, perhaps?

Hot, Hot, Hot!

And you have to have dips, right?
A few that bowled us over:

Laura Merrill's Buffalo Chicken Dip.
The recipe for this
and her ROCKIN' Asian Cole Slaw
is on her awesome blog,
I have never chosen to eat a dip with celery
until this one. Perfect!

Kay's Chili Dip

Seriously easy to make,
and there is never any left!
Not at all healthy or "gourmet",
but Come On.
Nick requested it, and
It's Super Bowl!

One Can Tamales or a half dozen fresh Tamales with Sauce
One Can Chili, No Beans
One Can Rotel
In Saucepan, Heat Tamales, mashing all lumps out.
Add chili and Rotel.
Add in Velveeta in small batches until melted.
Serve Hot with Chips

I wish I had a picture of the Onion Souffle'.
I threatened to put it in my lap
and not share.
I wasn't kidding.
It is not really a souffle'
but is a great dip to have
with chips or crackers.

12-16 ounces Chopped Onions
24 ounces Cream cheese, softened
2 cups Parmesan
1/2 cup Mayonaise

Preheat onion to 450
Stir all ingredients together until well combined.
Transfer to a shollow 2 quart dish
Bake 15 minutes or until browned.

Amazing food, Good drinks
and Great Friends.
3 TVs, including one outside!

What could be better??

Oh yeah,
New Orleans!
I could have done
without the heart attacks,
But truely worth it!
Geaux Saints!

One of a Kind Finds

They make me smile.

Desperately Seeking...

A new bedside table.

Because this

is what I am dealing with now.
It's just not working out for me.

While I am glad my husband is a reader,
why does he insist on keeping
this many (cook)books by the bed?
(And sadly, I stacked them up
before I snapped the picture.)

Drawers or Cabinets: A MUST!
Keeping my eyes open for something like this:

or this:
Wish me luck!
